During the summer of 1999 I started a project of short film with special effects, the planned lenght was about 10 minutes. Here are some details about the project:
Me, Jean-Luc Demers, in the role of Kardarak, an archmage who want to control the world. Stéphane Ayotte in the role of Gordal, the fight who follows Kardarak in is quests. Jean-François Roy, in the role of the apprentice.
The story is about a magician who returns to his old master to take possession of the spell book that will allow him to take control over the world.
The script is written quickly, it was not of high quality.
What required the most time was the creation of the blue screen in the summer of 1999. The dimension was of 20'X12' for the background and the same for the floor, it took us weeks of work to build it (part-time, because we had other things to do, including my summer job). We found that the blue was not the right one and we also had problems with the lighting. In addition, we also did camera movement which made impossible the video editing (with 3D animation).
The filming was done in one day during the summer of 1999, but problems with camera movement and blue background had forced us to retake the scenes set in the tower during the summer of 2000. This part of the filming took one night. It goes without saying that it was not enough time for the shooting.
We had to retakes some scene in summer 2000 with a small blue screen made of three metal sheets. The blue was perfect (or almost), a half-hour work against the weeks of work the previous summer, we learn from our mistakes ...
The problems with the blue background and the movement of cameras have been corrected in this part, only a scene using the ground (blue) required to keep the old shooting.
The project is droppped (or at least on hold). The script needs to be reworked and the scenes needs a better preparation before shooting. We shot the battle scenes with the idea of adding monsters afterwards. As I'm a programmer and not a graphic designer, I decided not to put more time on this part.
For now, I began to rewrite history as new.
